Do you ever think about the people who have lived Do you ever think about the people who have lived and died where you now stand?We loved exploring Spofforth Castle, the ruined hall and chamber of a fortified manor house dating mainly from the 14th and 15th centuries.A manor house was built here in the 11th century and was home to the Percy family, one of the most powerful families in northern England. It was reportedly here that rebel barons drew up the Magna Carta in 1215. The surviving ruins are those of the fortified manor house.Entry is free. Please be aware that there are steep stairs, uneven surfaces, and places where unattended children could fall. Want to know a secret? 🤫I am super intimidate Want to know a secret? 🤫I am super intimidated by busy UK pubs. 🫣Brandon and I visited a few different pubs to grab drinks, and it was so chaotic. There did not seem to be any rhyme or reason in which orders were taken, except perhaps whoever shouted at the bartender the loudest. I ended up hanging back and letting Brandon handle our order 😂We visited the @thecastleinnspofforth twice. Once for drinks (me and Brandon) and once for dinner with the whole family. Our dinner at the restaurant was an entirely different atmosphere and experience than getting drinks at the pub. Our waiter was friendly, the restaurant was quiet, and the food was delicious.We recommend: 🍗 Corn-fed Chicken Breast Roast 🥕 Salt Roasted Loin of Pork 🍕 Margherita PizzaAre you intimidated by ordering at a busy pub? Don’t be like us, read the ingredients label before you buy. Open hours are generally 8am - dusk as long as weather conditions are safe.🛑 Note: no dogs, pushchairs, prams or buggies allowed. Climbing steps is required and there is no disabled access.⭐️ TIP: If you don’t have time to walk the entire wall, start at Bootham Bar Gateway and end at Monk Bar Gateway.2. Shambles is one of York’s most famous landmarks, as well as one of the best preserved medieval shopping streets in Europe. There are all kinds of shops and restaurants to try, including several Harry Potter themed shops that you can’t miss.⭐️ TIP: We also enjoyed the family friendly magic tour with @wizardwalkofyork3. St Mary’s Abbey ruins date back to 1088. The monastery was begun by William the Conqueror and ended by Henry the Eighth. Entry is free. Open hours are generally 9am - 6pm. I traveled internationally with no driver’s lice I traveled internationally with no driver’s license, cash or credit cards ⬇️Mild panic is a pretty accurate description of what I felt as we were boarding our flight from Dallas to London, and I realized I did not have my purse.My biggest concern was that my car would be broken into, and my purse stolen. In my purse was everything someone would need to steal my identity (driver’s license, address, garage door opener, credit cards, debit card, and insurance cards).But if I was going to enjoy our trip I had to let it go. Thankfully I had my passport in my backpack, and Apple Pay on my phone. Oh, and another responsible adult to drive our rent car (my husband Brandon).For the next two weeks I checked our bank accounts for fraud twice a day, and monitored our house through our Ring app. Other than that I just let it go and hoped for the best.When we got back my purse was still sitting on the floorboard of my car, in the airport parking garage, undisturbed.Have you ever had something like this happen to you?
